Fikret Atay
Turkish, born 1976

This work was made in Batman, in the Kurdish part of Turkey. It involves two boys singing a traditional Kurdish wedding song in a cash machine booth. They do so with made-up words, indeed, hardly even words at all. The work reflects on the ability to maintain a local identity in the context of a globalizing world.
