Park McArthur
American, born 1984
Much of McArthur’s work relates to questions of accessibility, healthcare and disability. This work resembles the text and markings found on an incentive spirometer, a medical device that helps patients expand their lung capacity. In units of milliliters, incentive spirometers attempt to measure the volume of a breath of air. The devices are made up of a plastic tube and mouthpiece, an indicator, two airway chambers, a bobbin, a lined chart marking volume and another line marking the accuracy of the reading.
