Helen Ascoli
Guatemalan, born 1984
A concept introduced by Brazilian artist Lygia Clark proposes the idea of artwork as an act rather than as object. This weave by Ascoli is an eight-format, in which the stripes and design of the warp in Ascoli’s (o)ver ver (o)ver come to visually represent the passage of time—a “camino” walked—whilst simultaneously making a nod to Clark. The work suggests the dematerialization of the weave with a focus on the process of making, and interacting with, the textile.
