Margaret Honda
American, born 1961
These works reflect on Honda’s own family history. As a Japanese American, her father was interned during World War II. After his release, he moved to Chicago, where he was employed at the University of Chicago. He spoke little about that period of his life to the artist, but memories of this time are reflected in these pencil reproductions of two placemats—now family heirlooms—left behind after his death.
