Tomoko Yoneda’s work is concerned with tracing history. In this series of photographs, she offers images that reveal a hidden past behind the everyday and the ordinary. A hill in Sarajevo is photographed as it is today, yet this idyllic landscape hides the fact that it is the point of the Serbian front line in the siege of Sarajevo. A similar message lies behind the photos of the Lebanon-Israel border, and the view of North Korea from the south. This work offers such views of locations of momentous events in history as a way of understanding how we live today with
such history.
